Fractures Overview:

Fractures can be complete or incomplete, and either normal or pathological.


Types Of Bone Fractures:

  • Closed fracture
  • Open fracture
  • Comminuted fracture
  • Greenstick fracture
  • Impacted fracture
  • Compression (vertebra)
  • Spiral fracture
  • Pathologic fracture

Joint Fractures:

  • Bone fractures can extend into the joint
  • Cartilage tears
  • Haemarthrosis

Aetiology:

Stress fractures are often caused by over-use or repeated force, such as in the case of an athlete. They tend to affect the metatarsal bones most frequently. 


Symptoms:

Symptom

Loss of function

Inflammation

Poor gait

Weak distal pulses

Tenderness
