Overview:

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is the process where the distribution of bacterial flora changes to resemble that of the large intestine. 


Aetiology:

SIBO is generally caused by poor intestinal motility and stasis, leading to bacterial overgrowth from the large intestine.

  1. SIBO is associated with IBS and chronic fatigue syndrome.
